They get the jokes because they follow the news. If they didn’t keep current on what’s happening in politics all the jokes would go over their heads, just as the jokes would be lost on anyone going to Yiddish theatre who didn’t speak the language.

Here is my input.

The idea of converative veiws and socialist idealisms such as free healthcare can exist together under one goverment. I know this because they do...thats right I am british.

Now you may all feel, what have I got to do with this all and you would probably be right, but well I just thought that it might be worth pointing out a few things.

The UK has for a long time provided its subjects with a free healthcare service, it called the NHS (National Healthcare Service) and was founded all the way back in July 1948.

The NHS was one of the consequences of the Beveridge report written in 1942. It's aim was to build a better nation and pushed for a welfare state. When the Labour party came into government after WWII, they used the report to create the welfare state still familiar toady. This included the formation of the NHS.

Since 1948 we have seen numerious goverment changes from labour to conservative but the idea of free heathcare stands. I for one think its a great idea, even if it is not the best healthcare in the world (far from it!), and it definatly is a target for a lot of imagrants and the like.

brilliant

and as succinct and pointed as any dressing down or moral undressing (oops, watch that phraseology about that hockey mom) as any non-satirical rant I've seen in ages. You are being non-satirical, aren't you, 'cause it's gettin' harder and harder to know? I laughed at times so doesn't that count?

I know satire and I found nothing satirical in Limbaugh's assault on political correctiveness (indeed, it's the only time I can recall agreeing with the spirit of his pompous blather, though not the expression). Satire is one party making fun of another by applying some accepted or commonplace standard -- so who exactly was Rush ridiculing if not Palin and her bizarre claim anyone should get fired for a private comment to his own partisans. There'd be no Republicans left in office if we followed that line of censorship.

Palin either didn't get that or chose to ignore the angry bull in the China shop (whoops, no offense intended for that culture). So, she's defending a guy who cleaned her clock because of conservative political correctness. Which is so much worse than calling a non-compromised person doing something stupid "retarded."

Frankly, I object more to Rahm's foul language against liberals wanting to attack miscreant Democrats than that he disputed their judgment. That's called opinion. Bad manners is something else, but not quite a firing offense.

In fact, Limbaugh ridicules and coats with sarcasm and contempt, barely reaching the higher level of satire, nor does leveraging his extremist, non-standard values go beyond his dittohead base. There is a difference between a political buffoon and a satirist.
