Filling The Hot Spot At MSNBC

February 3, 2009 · Filed Under Bill O'Reilly, Media
With an east coast evening lineup presently at 50% repeat level - Matthews (rerun), Olbermann, Maddow, Olbermann (rerun) - the suits at the General Electric’s cable baby have finally decided to stick in a bit of originality right behind Ms Maddow. The big drinking game around the MSNBC Superbowl Party centered around who (or what?) should anchor the 10-11 slot at the Big M.

My vote has always been for an out and out comedy, taking a 3000 Mystery Science Theater approach to the O’Reilly Factor. Then again, perhaps just running the no-spinster with no modification would be zanier. The truth is funnier than fiction approach. Then again, Olbermann already does that with all the Lords of Loud.

When Don Imus was discarded from the morning MSNBC lineup, the network ran a weekly series of live auditions with a star-studded Chorus Line that I remember as including such luminaries as Philly talker Michael Smerconish, Vegas muscleman Carrot Top and former Los Angeles Dodger manager, Wil I. Am, with former standup Joe Scarborough winning the slot.

But that was the morning and no one really watches morning television except for infants still waiting a change and housewives awaiting the young Latino gardener.

This is prime time TV. On the east coast the show and host will go head to head with Leno…and everywhere else, former hand model, Greta Van Susteren. For that you need someone with the chops. Someone who will take the risks without fear of looking like a fool…over and over and over. Someone who isn’t afraid of being canceled from a talk show because they already have. Someone who isn’t afraid to say, “I have no idea what I’m talking about,” and yet, keep on talking. Someone that will attract both the 25- 50 hard news addicts and the all-important 12-17 year old over-active, watching one-handed, hormonal-driven male demographic. Someone who knows how to pull apart the hardest of hard news analysis with the ease of a well-placed fart joke.

I’m talking about the lithe and lithier syndicated-radio talker, Stephanie Miller. Sure she didn’t make the final cut at her previous MSNBC audition, but my inside sources said that she really didn’t want to put on makeup that early unless Olbermann was in the room.

In prime time she fits in the M’er lineup well. Not as creepy as Matthews but can Chris say Hannity has a thing for him…in public. Not gaining weight a rapidly as Keith, but still porking out in the right places. Not as smart as Rachel, but at least with Steph, guys still think, “it could happen.”

And if you think Olbermann gets the Right’s goat, try Stephanie. She (and sidekick James K. Ward - the funniest male mind in radio, bar none) rips the Right with more cunning - I said, cunning - than anyone one else in the business. She’d be O’Reilly’s greatest nightmare (and wet dream). She knows just how to throw the crazy right’s actual words right back at ‘em.  Forget David Brock.  Stephanie Miller is Media Matters with a great ass.

Seriously, if MSNBC wants their news to entertain, Miller must be considered seriously for the 10 PM slot. She’s funny, good to look at and knows politics…at least as much as necessary.

And if not Stephanie, I would go with the reruns but let Comcast in Tuscon drop in their porn from 10-11.

If you want Stephanie Miller to fill your evening cup of hot…red hot milk, e-mail MSNBC at:  letters@msnbc.com and tell them you want to see Stephanie Miller on top of Rachel Maddow.

I couldn’t agree with you more! Bring Steph and the mooks back to the TV machine! She could supplement her AM income so she can buy more box wine and treats for her doggies!

Stephine Miller is the Hot talking head that MSNBC needs, Her radio show is the funniest show on radio, She has great timing and understands the way to get under the skin and expose the agenda of the “Right Wing Idiots”.
I enjoy watching MSNBC but the reruns Of Olberman and Chris Matthews force me to change the channel to either CNN or Faux News.
It’s time for MSNBC to stick Miller in the 7:00 time slot Now!

    Nope.

They need to get someone in there that will tackle the in-depth news with follow-up on the breaking scandals (mmmmmmmmmmmBUSHED) that have yet to be mined.

Stephanie is “cute”. Suited to the radio.

Stephanie Miller on top of Rachel Maddow.

I see what you did there…

My choice for 10:00 would be Michael Moore. He fits right in and is as ugly in fact as the rest of the lineup is in theory.

Until Stephanie learns how to think or read beyond a third grade level, she is not really suited for radio or TV. I don’t think it’s a good idea to pair a Rhodes scholar with someone who just isn’t too bright.
