Oh What a Tangled Web He Weaves, When First O’Reilly Practices to Deceive

October 19, 2008 · Filed Under Bill O'Reilly, Fox News, Media

There are lies and there are damned lies.

That spin of Benjamin Disraeli’s adage may just have to be amended.

This past week, while railing into a writer at the New York Times, Bill O’Reilly said that “I’ve been at Fox News for 13 years and I don’t know of one time anyone at Fox lied. If they did (Fox News Boss) Roger Ailes would have them fired.”

There are lies and there are Bill O’Reilly lies.

If the Ailes firing comment were true, today there would be no Fox News commentators.

It’s doesn’t take much research to find if anyone on Fox News has ever lied… just watch the Factor and Bill.

-”France lost billions because of my boycott.”

-Calling Senator Christopher a liar for asserting that Bill had said he would be okay with terrorists bombing San Francisco because Dodd didn’t know which of Bill’s show he said it on.

-Kidnaped teen, Shawn Hornbeck, liked his captivity by an adult sexual predator (”The situation here for this kid looks to me to be a lot more fun than what he had under his old parents…And I think when it all comes down, what’s going to happen is, there was an element here that this kid liked about his circumstances.) he was only saying it in the context of discussing “child sexual abuse accommodation syndrome”

And my favorite…

-”(Steve Young) is not a TV writer.” In the same segment he said I was “crazy.” The latter is still up for debate.

There are videos and soundbites aplenty refuting Bill’s contention that no one at Fox lies, but he’ll only tell you that those video and soundbites are lies or edited or out of context…even when the entire clips are presented.

“I’ve been at Fox News for 13 years and I don’t know of one time anyone at Fox lied, ” can be pretty much debunked before you get through the first half hour of “Fox & Friends.”

But just the same he damned Chris Dodd for claiming that Bill was okay with the bombing of San Francisco because Dodd believed he said it on the TV Factor, when in fact, Bill said it on his Radio Factor, Bill regularly demeans the intellect of his Folks™ through his persnickety, though sophomoric, defenses.

It’s easy. Let’s give it a shot..

“I’ve been at Fox News for 13 years and I don’t know of one time anyone at Fox lied.”

Perhaps he’s never actually watched Fox.

Or…a lie needs to be proven that it’s not just a mistake.

Then again, he may not know of “one time.” Hundreds maybe, but not one.

There are lies and there are Bill O’Reilly lies.

Bill attempts to justify his lies by surrounding it with truths as my buddy Aristotle once said, “Liars when they speak the truth are not believed.”

When Bill says he’s objective and fair (and balanced) to Barack Obama, even Franklin D. Roosevelt knew that “Repetition does not transform a lie into a truth.”

Though I think Bill more channels Lenin…

“A lie told often enough becomes the truth.

At least to Bill.

And your own lies about an everyday American -Joe Wurzelbacher? Those lies are more acceptable? What the hell did he ever do to you, other than give Barky an opening to look like the socialist fool that he is? I didn’t find a retraction or clarification here, now that it’s all been proven typical, hysterical liberal ‘attack the messenger’ behavior.

You might want to hold off moving into that glass house for a bit.

I really despise O’Reilly, but this is really a stupid column that doesn’t show him up at all and anyone who follows Bill can find all kinds of bullshit that he has spewed.

    Joel,
    ‘Preciate it.

Oh, republicans. You guys are such jackasses that it’s actually embarrassing.

@heart - if you’re talking about Steve’s previous column, you need to take a deep breath, find a dictionary and look up the word SATIRE.

Sheesh. And these people like to say liberals don’t have a sense of humor.

    Rick,
Thanks. Heart was gonna hit me.

RickM - Maybe you need to take a deep breath and *pay attention*. There are two articles… one (in ‘Kind of Satire’) about ‘Joe the Plumber’ and the second (NOT in ‘Kind of Satire’) that falsely skewers Joe Wurzelbacher.

It’s rather simple. When in doubt about his ’satire’ look at the categories.

And Steve, sweetie… walk it back all you want now but at least have the cajones to admit you jumped on the ‘bash Joe the Plumber’ bandwagon… prematurely.

And btw boys… I’m not a Republican; I’m a liberal, just not one that is quite so quick to attack and dismiss… or hit.

    Have a nice day.
